UNO Ultimate is one of the many sport clubs at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. We are a competitive team whose goal is to travel around the Midwest and compete with other college teams. There is no experience needed to come and play Ultimate, just a willingness to learn and a competitive spirit.
Joining the teamJoining UNO Ultimate is very simple, any student who has a willingness to try something fun and new is encouraged to come out and give it a shot. The only requirement is to be currently enrolled and taking classes at UNO. Along with taking classes, all sport club members must pay dues ($20/semester to help pay for tournaments), a sports physical, and baseline testing done by UNO's Injury Prevention and Care Center.
FAll SeasonThe focus of every fall season is to have fun! Practices are focused on teaching skills to new players, along with strengthening those of returning. Every tournament we will go to in the fall will be oriented toward having fun, bonding, and playing ultimate. Fall tournaments will usually have a social gathering on Saturday night which provides an opportunity for players, new and old, to make new friends from other colleges around the region.
Spring SeasonOur spring season tends to be more competitive, but still focusing on having fun while playing. During the spring we travel to what are called sanctioned tournaments. USA Ultimate is the national governing body for ultimate frisbee, and they put on these tournaments. At the end of the spring season is the "Series", this consists of the Conference Championships, Regionals, and the National Championships. In order to play in these sanctioned games, one must have a USAU membership (~$50) which is good for any team you choose to play on that calendar year.
winter SeasonUNO Ultimate practices indoors once the Nebraska winter sets in. We practice at the Dome at the old Chili Green's Golf Course. Players are also encourage to play Omaha and Lincoln winter leagues to stay in shape over the long winter. Times for indoor practices will be announced during the fall as winter nears.
Summer SeasonAfter the conclusion of the Series, the college season is completed and UNO Ultimate takes the summer off. Most players play in the Summer Omaha Ultimate League or the Lincoln summer league. For more information on ultimate going on around Nebraska check out Omaha and Lincoln ultimate's website. Players are also encouraged to play for Nebraska's club team Scythe, further advancing skills learned throughout the college season. Practices will resume once the fall semester of classes begin.
